Movie Review: Slumdog Millionaire

I was quite surprised by the Best Movie win by Slumdog Millionaire at the Golden Globes last week. It was a good movie I would say, one which I would recommend friends not to miss, but it did not deserve the Best movie win. The film was superbly directed! highly entertaining and hits you from every emotional angle….. it made me lol, got me teary-eyed, made me cheer for the underdog, it was suspenseful and the beautiful, colorful landscapes of India just took my breath away. But the ending was somewhat predictable. All in all, a great, wonderful movie. So, go watch it if you haven’t already.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is my personal favourite for best movie. It was heartfelt and reminded me how fragile life is. One of the quotes that stood out to me was how nothing ever lasts, and what a shame that is. It speaks of mortality and loss, but it’s also a reminder to not take our loved ones for granted.

A quote that I love from the movie:

We’re meant to lose the people we love. How else are we supposed to know how important they are.

It’s a sweet movie that makes you think and perhaps even inspire you to live life to your fullest. Excellent film with a wonderful message, and superb special effects. Not too happy however that it was 3 hours long.

Quaker True Delights

As a mom of a busy 4 year old, sometimes eating breakfast at the table can be a challenge. There are days when we really have to eat breakfast on the run in order to get to school on time. On those days granola bars are the best solution for breakfast.

So when I had a chance to review the new Quaker True Delights, I was naturally excited.

Quaker True Delights

The Quaker True Delights come in 3 different flavors. The dark Chocolate Raspberry Almond, Toasted Coconut Banana Macadamia Nut and Honey Roasted Cashew Mixed Berry.

Quaker True Delights

Notice that you can actually see the berries, nuts and chocolate bits on the granola bars. That is what I like about these bar. Not only you get the flavors, you get the actual texture of all the additions. C’s favorite is the Toasted Coconut Banana Macadamia Nut. She thinks it tastes just like my banana but bread. My favorite is the Dark Chocolate Raspberry Almond although I do like the other 2 just as well. After tasting these, I actually went out & bought more for myself.

If you have never tried this, you can actually get a free sample by clicking HERE and fill in your info. Hurry & go check it out now before they run out.

Pancake molds

My little girl is a picky eater. In an effort to make her eat more, I try to make food attractive for her by cutting them into fancy shapes and present them in a pretty manner. I find that she eats more this way. The only problem with cutting food into fancy shapes is the remaining scraps that are leftover after cutting the shapes. Those scraps either end up in the garbage or in my tummy which is so bad for my diet!! :)

That’s why I love these pancake molds

Just place the mold on a pan, scoop some pancake mix into the mold, then as the pancake sets, remove the mold slowly and voila, a nice shape pancake without any scraps. The only problem I face is sometimes the batter will stick to the mold when removing but that can be easily solved by greasing the sides a little with butter before using.

Teaching a toddler to read

I am one of those moms that actually believe that it’s ok to watch a little TV or play a little computer games, as long as they are educational and done under supervision. My little girl, C actually started to read even before she turned 3. I think one of the main reason that she started reading so early was because I read to her a lot, and I really mean A LOT! Even when she was just a few months old, we read at least 10-20 books a day. When I was pregnant, I used to scour everywhere for affordable books. I love Marshalls & TJ Maxx. They have really good books at a great price.

Anyway, back to my point, besides reading to her, I also exposed her to the computer right after she turned one. My favorite website is www.starfall.com. She loved that website and I think that this website was a useful tool for her to start reading. Starfall made learning ABCs fun and at their age, it’s all about fun. When they have fun, they learn much faster like my little girl did.
